Frances Cress Welsing (born Frances Luella Cress; March 18, 1935 – January 2, 2016) was an American afrocentrist psychiatrist. Her 1970 essay, The Cress Theory of Color-Confrontation and Racism (White Supremacy), offered her interpretation on the origins of white supremacy culture.

She was the author of The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors (1991). Welsing caused controversy after she said that homosexuality among African-Americans was a ploy by white males to decrease the black population.

Comments

GCKelloch says:

This is brilliant stuff. Even her claim about black homosexuality being somehow promoted by whites may have some basis in truth. Not that homosexuality isn't perfectly natural, but it makes sense that some black men are forced into sexual submissiveness through social and economic oppression. Not sure if it would work the same for black women. It's worth exploring anyway.

Maria Bykofsky says:

Dr Frances Cress Welsing was spot on, and amazingly kept her composure.

tabbykat meow says:

This amaze me how the white people in the audience are proving her point with their reaction

Darrius Veazia says:

The audience is vastly missing the point.

Janet Bennett says:

I used to watch this show and Phil Donahue never shied away from issues that made people uncomfortable. It was that element of discomfort that got people to discuss these topics. Watching this episode in 2018, I find this episode and the audience's response to be a foreshadowing of our current situation today and the future.

Smithjgwhs3 says:

Very unfocused discussion. Dr. Welsing has a particular position and definition for "racism", the audience is not really addressing it head on.
