History keeps repeating itself when it comes to the Black Intellectual Community. It first started with Booker T. Washington vs. W.E.B. DuBois; then Malcolm X vs. Dr. Martin Luther King; now it's Umar Johnson vs. Sara Suten Seti and Tariq Nasheed vs. Tommy Sotomayor… Out of all these well-educated black men mentioned above, only Booker T. Washington had a plan of action and he put his words and theory into practice and it worked. Washington founded Tuskegee Institute as a trade school. Today, it is an institution of higher learning that grants bachelors, masters, and doctorate degrees. Booker T. Washington stated that black people need to first learn a trade to where we can be prepared for a blue-collared job as a means of starting off small and then working your way up to the top to where we can have a college that prepare us for a white-collared job. His plan works.. I truly understand that everybody can't go to college and have a white-collar job. Having a white collar job does not make anybody better than a person with a blue-collar job because there are blue-collar jobs that pay more than some white-collar job. Booker T. Washington believed that we as black people should be well-rounded. He wanted us to be a "Jack of all Trades." His critics did not have the momentum like he had to put their theories into actions. They actually envied him. Jealousy and envy prevents us from flourishing.
