Dr. Jelani Favors: North Carolina and the Black Power Movement
Dr. Jelani Favors dicusses the importance of North Carolina as a central location for the Black Power Movement. Dr. Favors received his Ph.D. and M.A. in history from the Ohio State University and completed a B.A. in history at North Carolina A&T State University. Dr. Favors is currently an Associate Professor of Geography and History at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Mellon HBCU year-end colloquium is co-sponsored by the John Hope Franklin Research Center, the Center for African and African American Research, the Department of English, the Department of History, and the Center for the Study of Race, Ethnicity, Gender in the Social Sciences.
We would like to especially acknowledge the Mary Lou Williams Center for co-organizing and co-sponsoring the Sonia Sanchez keynote. Additional support for the keynote is also being provided by the Department of African and African American Studies, the Program in Women's Studies, the Office of Institutional Equity, the Samuel DuBois Cook Society, the Women's Center, and the Office of Student Affairs and Activities.
