Legendary 40’s singer and actor Tony Martin achieved his final top ten hit in 1956 with ‘Walk Hand In Hand’ (uploaded) but continued performing and recording into the 1970’s.
After leaving RCA Victor in 1961 Tony signed for Dot then in 1964 surprisingly signed for Motown and released this super record, it reached the dizzy heights of 133 in the US chart. Definitely not what we expect as a Motown style recording.
If anyone has a UK copy of this I will gladly take it off their hands it was the last Motown record released on the Stateside label.
Tony was married to Cyd Charisse for 60 years until her death in 2008, Tony died in 2012 aged 98.
This is motown ?
Fantastic love this song and singer thank you for this
This is amazing. What brilliant record. Need a copy of this.
A great man..My A Father got to meet up with him, a few times during WWII..IN Burma.. He would sing for the town people, and troops..Have many of his old records..Great play
( Oh, by the way..he would have the Gold Congressional Medal now..My Father got it last year, when we were invited to Wash. DC they all got it, that unit )
I don't think I know Tony Martin. I like listening to it now but not when I when it could have come out. Very interesting records this week.
Love this Al – a catchy melody, very 'singalongable' to. Much like the sort of thing Dean Martin would have done at the time.
(PS. Al – I've reconfigured my settings a bit – are you getting note of my stuff now?).
Thanks I've now got to find a copy of this
Now,you're talkin'!…Another great recording and Motown classic to be savoured by incurable romantics…(Guilty…as charged!…)
