I greatly appreciate Marcus Garvey work. He set the stage for independence for Black countries, Black Civil Rights leaders and reshape Black culture. One of the true Black leader who never though hatred.

@SuckOnTruth by the way, I don't know what the Socialist reference has to do with anything. Groups have engaged in 'purges' from time immemorial. They happen among right-wing regimes all the time. It sounds like you're trying to make some sort of political statement, but if so, you're doing it in a very underhanded way.
@DIOPJR and by "oppressed" I mean that the Jews were discriminated against, in various ways, well before the Nazi regime. Whites created the concept of the race-based nation; Garvey merely tried to expose its contradictions, by demanding Africa for the Africans. You can draw comparisons all you want, but if they're not instructive ones, then what's the point?
@SuckOnTruth but that's not what they wanted to do. Hitler wanted to purge people from a nation that already existed, Garvey wanted to create a state from territories that were occupied by violence by foreigners. The comparison is disingenuous. Do you think that Hitler was similar to Abraham Lincoln or James Monroe, because they believed in ethnically homogeneous states?

Garvey hated imperialism, recognized that the ideological underpinning of imperialism was white supremacy, and sought to combat both by instilling race pride in an oppressed people. Hitler hated humanity, took note of how, as a low-life Viennese tramp, he was deluded by Pan-Germanic demagogues into believing himself an ubermensch, and used all the resources of German monopoly capital to similarly delude his compatriots. Try again.

The Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey was the greatest orator Africa has produced! I wonder at this man, who collected in himself the suffering of hundreds of years before him and articulated the longings of those for a century to come! He understood every aspect of our struggle- economic, political, psychological, spiritual! He withstood the plots of the greatest empires this world has ever produced! And when I first heard this speech, I felt like the father of all Africans was instructing us!

everything hey, stop putting everyone in the same boat, man. calm down! there is no we arabs or we blacks or we whatever. we are all people. i never said Egypt wasn't a black nation, man…it sure was. America was a red indian land, why don't they get their land back? they should, but i mean that's not the point. the point is for us all, to be able to live together in these times. everybody should be respected, including blacks, everybody. and we should come closer, to understand eachother more.

And brother, you are of West African descent. Your land of origin is somewhere over there, not in Egypt. I'm not saying that Egypt belongs to Arabs, I'm just pointing out your land of origin. Africa has many tribes, many different ethnicities. And man, Egypt or any other nation in Africa for that matter, does welcome any black person wanting to live there. Even Arab nations in North Africa.

I am of Arab desent, but I am all for the liberation of Black people and I love Marcus Garvey teachings and Rastafari teachings. I view Black people as an example for all other people on the Earth to come back to humanity, to divinity, to self-respect, and to unity. I see the struggle of Black people as a struggle for all of humanity, for Black people are the symbol of humanity and of freedom for all peoples of the world. We who truly believe in humanity are standing right beside you!
