If you talk about the Civil War and racism without once mentioning DEMOCRATS, then you are a liar by omission, no matter how true what you do say.
My view is that Reconstruction should have lasted 40 YEARS, 1865-1905, long enough for the generation of Whites who owned slaves to die, just like the recalcitrant Israelites in the desert. No separate but "equal" (1896). That would have changed race relations for the better for all time. That was undermined by John Wilkes Booth, a DEMOCRAT, and DEMOCRATS of the North and South.
