I don't remember where I herd this parable, but is basically the same over generations- the merchant who sold goods regularly to the towns folk asked a group one day before he was ready to leave their town- which would you prefer, wisdom or gold? He held many small bags of gold in his hands, more than the people he serviced. All of the people asked for gold. So, he gave them all a bag. He then was ready to leave and one man approached him and said, "wisdom, sir, wisdom". The merchant smiled and allowed the man to ride several days with him as he promised to school him and give him the wisdom he sought. The merchant rode through many mountains and then he approached a garrison full of soldiers. The man become fearful as the soldiers looked ready for war. The merchant told the man to be calm and the merchant took off his hood and the soldiers all kneed and exclaimed "my prince!" The merchant was really a prince and the man who sought wisdom became knowledgeable of the prince's operation. The prince took him throughout the royal vaults, banks and universities. The prince exclaimed how impressed he was the man chose wisdom, citing how all who took the gold would more than likely give it right back because they would soon need to shop again soon. Then the prince offered the man a job as a royal advisor/merchant, the prince exclaimed he would be wealthy if he accepted and he did. The man took the prince's old task and reported to him as required.-POINT, wisdom or gold???? Black people keep choosing gold for some reason. I am black, grew up in the hood, and I chose wisdom!! It can be done, it must be done if we will win. A man with a business is a good thing but look what happened to Garvey, they keep you in the courts and then that drains you financially???? wisdom/knowledge is the only way out. You cannot bypass the need for our people to gain college educations in the sciences, language and certifiable trades. For instance, if you go get an auto-mechanic certification, you can open up your own auto shop and compete with whites for the black community's business. Or if you go to law school, you can open your own firm in the black community and service blacks who need you, but must GO TO COLLEGE!!!!!!!! wisdom or gold???? But blacks seem intellectually lazy as a community and then blacks wonder why they get sold out by academics who become successful It is called the brain drain, white corporations buy out all smart and promising black scholars. Therefore, College must become our culture, we have HBCU's s there should not be a problem Thoughts?
