Have you ever been to a black owned business and received bad service? Are black owned businesses training their workers properly?
Do we need to boycott black owned businesses until they improve their business ethics? Let’s talk about it

Comments

Rell Facts says:

Absolutely correct brother. I support black owned businesses but it's necessary that our people practice proper business etiquette. But this comes from a lack of knowledge and order that our people just don't have.

Truth-Rationale Scientist says:

Exactly! They NEVER sell stuff we already use! But I am not embarrassed to be black. That is offensive. Don't generalize!

Twilight Bytes says:

Complimenterary, Lol!

R J Lee says:

It's a cultural values problem, not a business opportunity problem.

Brian J says:

It's really interesting how a lot of black folks traffic in the fairy stereotypes that they are angry that whites perpetuate. This guy is perpetuating myth and stereotypes based on limited experiences. It's really self-defeating and embarrassing

Lakitha Goss says:

Lack of supply chain and time management issues is my biggest complaint.

BLACK MANS TESTIMONY says:

Some people think customer service means getting their ass licked. That the business should be begging you to make a purchase or use their service. Some customers love to use the threat of "I'll go somewhere else" if they don't get their way. Some customers think they have a right to degrade and hassle workers and can't wait to try and get that worker in trouble on their job even though that customer themselves doesn't have a job.But they won't put this same burden on a white establishment.

Thomas Garret says:

I can see your pain,as black people we are living in a lie from our churches, schools, culture everything. This is true we as a people have to relearn in everything. The most important is we have to learn and try to do all 613 of God's commandments then we would fall in line as considered the dominant people on earth,2Edras6:54-57.

joe jackson says:

We seemed to go extra hard in black businesses. I’ve sat in non Black restaurants with other black people with trash on the floor, non one said nothing.. we go to a black restaurant with the same people and they notice and point out every little flaw and then vow to not go back. We are mind fucked

Spanakoptia07 says:

Stupid coon

Carmen Fox says:

I do understand what you're saying. It's true that we need to get our act together. Everything you're saying is so true. Spread the word far and near. We have very, very, bad customer services. black businesses don't go out of the way to make their customers happy. Anyhow don't give up on us. Why don't you have a platform to which you could educate our people on the importance of good customer service?

Somebody in the comment section says:

Nubian Khaleesi says:

Sadly what u are saying is true. I find myself involuntarily bracing myself before going into a hair appointment, a food place, a clothing store owned by or run by blacks. I REAAAAAAALLLLLY hate when cashiers in food places take their daaaaaaaammmmmnnnnn TIME to take your order and the other taking out your food. The attitude is like they dont want to be there. And another thing, why TF are u counting your money DURING THE DAY when customers are lined up waiting to order?????? and they dont like to answer questions or replace nothing. It's just disheartening cuz I'm really trying to support black businesses… This video is sadly the truth

Dionne Francis says:

U full of shit

christiandivamd says:

Oh shut up! You have a problem with a native Black business owner- give them an opportunity to correct the mistake. This shit is ignorant- you're really using the N word? You're thirsty as fuck for likes. I know the white supremicists are loving your Coon ass. Dumb fuck!!

Anderson Blooper says:

Thank you for bringing this up. Someone needed to say it and everyone walks on eggshells like the problem doesn't exist. It's the Elephant in the Room.

But let me be abundantly clear: Black businesses usually have horrible customer service and follow through.

The barbershop experience is the worst, imo.

Here are my experiences with my black barber:

1. He's almost always late. I always try to get his first appointment in the morning so I don't run the risk of him getting backed up throughout the day. But even as his first appointment, he's almost always late.

He never sends me a courtesy text message or phone call to let me know that he's running late. I always have to text him first to make sure he'll be on time, before I leave my house.

But even when he texts me back and says he'll be there on time, he hardly ever is. And when I inevitably arrive before him and text him to let him know I'm there, he always says he's close or around the corner. But he still doesn't arrive for another 10 minutes or more. That must be the longest corner ever!

When he arrives, he doesn't have the courtesy to apologize. Instead, he takes his good ole sweet time setting up, talking to the other barbers, texting other people, and sometimes running next door to order some food.

And if I schedule an appointment with him later in the day, that's even worse because he's normally backed up and I can't get into the chair for my set appointment.

My expectation is that he would respect me and his business enough that he would arrive early enough to set up, handle any text messages and phone calls, chat with other barbers, etc before my arrival.

2. He's not efficient. Throughout the haircut, he'll stop and take a phone call, respond to a text message, run outside real quick, change the music on his MP3 player, etc.

3. He doesn't update his online booking calendar to reflect when he's out of town or just unavailable to cut. So you book an appointment with him and he contacts you later and says he's out of town and needs to reschedule your appointment for another time. No apology, no customer service skills, etc. If you expect clients to schedule their appointments using your online calendar, then it's your responsibility to update the calendar accordingly. And the online booking calendar is a new thing. Before, you would have to text or call him with appointment requests and you wouldn't hear back for several hours. Or you'd have to text him again to make sure he got your appointment request.

4. He just lacks basic customer service skills. Basic communication etiquette. Respecting people's time. Lack of punctuality. In my opinion, a lack of basic customer service principles that anyone in business should know how to do…and want to do!

So why do I go to him? Because finding another barber is a hassle. And I keep hoping that he'll change. I've talked to him several times about my frustrations and how he could improve. He changes for a little bit but eventually goes back to his old ways.

I think black barbers know that their clients don't have other options. They know that people are sensitive about their hair and won't switch barbershops very easily. And instead of honoring, respecting, and cherishing that, they take advantage of it.

So, thank you again for bringing up these common experiences with black owned businesses. I'm glad you had the courage to speak up.

If anyone disagrees with you, then they probably have a low-paying job and are unsuccessful in business. They probably treat their clients or people around them equally as poorly.

Any successful black person in business will understand what you're saying and agree with you. Black businesses need to improve on customer service, follow through, and expertise. They need to realize that they're not soft for doing so. They don't need to try to act all macho and hard all the time. There's so much money to be made in servicing people in a professional manner.
