The story of Haiti's bravery is so infrequently spoken of (our grandparents called them "salt", so did our parents and so do we) it really warmed my chest to hear about it.: "And there, they will meet at the other end of a bayonet or machette, the historic indignation of slaves [prisoners of war] fighting for FREEDOM!". Gave me chills!
This documentary certainly went beyond the "official version soundbite", the information we hear repeated so many times and by so many different sources that we assume it's the whole truth eg. "ISLAMIC EXTREMISM", "JAMAICAN INDEPENDENCE". I loved the exposing of the Tudor Propagandist, Shakespeare, also the parts that revealed the various arguments that were used by Europeans/whites to justify the enslavement of blacks, and of course how the racist/white supremacist attitudes we see as so much a part of our modern societies flowered from that first time in history when a slave could be distinguished from a freeman by NOTHING except the colour of his skin (full man versus half beast). Gave me Chills, chills.
I'm delighted that Muta is on the radio trying to light the fire for freedom in black people..but when I hear most of the callers…I get depressed and start to wonder if Jamaica will ever be free.
Can a people be free again and even want the right to self determination after being so throughly broken and bred for servitude???
I have to say something…this is a good example of certain deficits in Jamaica (I live here, so I say here, not saying it's only Jamaica) that causes us to be disunited like headless chickens… Muta played a documentary that had me on the edge of my seat. I was so excited for the exchange of ideas that would follow, but NO, it becomes more about "shout out to", "black runners", "music business" and "court case". AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! It's maddening! Can we have a discussion and be united on even that??!? How do you listen to something this interesting and call to drone on about everything else except the history of racism? It took the momentum out of the show and disgusted me! SCOFF

Clearly the humanity in the culture of Europeans was lacking and empty like a reservoir and they left for "exploration" to find this and then lied to themselves saying they were looking for "spices" and "another route to the Indies." All those "reasons" they cooked up were all lies that they were telling themselves. Their culture was lacking in humanity and they were trying to find it in every other place but within themselves.
