Mr. Thomas Porter joined us for this edition of Academics In Cars to discuss his own historical record and the politics of popular histories. Specifically, Porter talked about Dr. King and his time with the King Center and family, CORE, SNCC, John Coltrane, art and more.
So much knowledge in this interview. Good looks!
This man cares nothing about nobody's feeling, lol. Respect.
This is dope and greatly appreciated
Thank you
Great ground covered!!!thanks so much for the ride! !!
I read the book and I was taken aback by how anti black it was. I’m not sure if it was Coretta or the other author but according to the book, she faced terrorism from whites at every point in her life but they were met with compassionate words but Black Panthers, so called “Militants” and black people that were employed and then fired at the King center were met with vitriol.
"…and if you aint willin to fight for it….owww! that part
Mr. Porter mentioned 2 men he held in well regard: Jack Odell and was the other -Bob Rhodes?
Words can not express how much I love these interviews.
In addition to the great content, I really liked the jazz in the background. There’s something about talking in an informal relaxed way that’s so different from the usual academic interview. I feel that your guests let their guard down more and the conversation goes to places where it wouldn’t ordinarily go. Keep it up.
And everybody loved JR…wish I was Riding with you Guys…
