Start as an LLC and take out an insurance policy especially if your a restaurant or major contracting work. Each location or office should be setup as it's own LLC entity so that only that location is at risk and not the entire company.

There's a lot that goes into starting a business. You have to understand you are not in it by yourself. When you open a business in the community you're taking on a multitude of issues then just buying and selling products. You're building relationships with the ones you serve. This is why customer service is very vital in keeping your business running. Most people don't truly understand the value in customer service. Then there's security and proper management of the overall operations. Anyone can go into their state office building and file for a business license or register their business. Most people don't understand the fundamental of KEEPING their business open. That's what missing from black owned businesses.

I genuinely felt the love from this video. Such a great conversation about the importance of black people taking care of each other and us building for ourselves. FUBU is the new movement for us black folks. We need more people like Dr. Boyce. This is truly revolutionary!

Wow. Dr. Boyce. You were preaching. Most colleges and Universities teach you how to work for other businesses instead of working for themselves. I know when I went to school they didn't even show you how to fill out a LLC. I didn't learn how to do that until I went to my church. My Pastor is our mentor who teaches us how to start our own businesses. He taught us to reach sky. We have a financial goal of reaching 5 million within the first 3 years of doing business.

I will be looking into the blackgranchiseprogram. I need to learn how to get capital for my business. I have a business but I need financial resources so that my business can take off. I love the advice that Attorney Tanya Nebo was giving. It was awesome. Thanks for sharing this video.

Mykaela Cole says:

Very informative interview. I believe the word black limits our creativity. I have no problem with it but I feel we are more than just black business, black lawyer, black person. We can use other words to express our creativity while still having the purpose to serve the black community.

letus hear says:

This is very good, I will be signing up soon. Surely some of your professors can help me move through the process of filing the paper work in regards to Underprivileged Minority Business. I have noticed on line that many of these sites are more geared toward women than anyone else. I was also informed by a company that owned one of these sites that it would cost upwards of at least $900.00 to get the paperwork filled out by their company. Truth is I have a thousand questions so I will simply get on board as soon as possible. Thank you for all you say and do. Great courage and compassion every time.

Moni Mason says:

I went to my local County Tax Assessor's office. Looked in there archives to make sure no one was using the business name I wanted to use.  I went to have the one short form notarized in the same building, then filed my business name. DBA Cost $12. You can file as many as you want if the business name isn't being used. Next: register for service and/or sales tax id no.

I would have liked for her to continue her speech on ownership.

La Divination says:

Is a DBA the same as a fictitious business statement?

BeccaMariee15 says:

If you have millions of dollars as you say then you can sponsor yourself to travel and help speak to black folks. It's sinful to try to place money in front of valuable information. You'd make it free if you truly wanted to help. Just saying. Love you Dr Boyce Watkins!
