A documentary detailing the heroic and innovative ideas of Marcus Garvey

Comments

steemdup says:

the betrayal over the ships is tragic – but somehow I'm not surprised about those Uncle Toms.  What a low blow – I hope those maggots are still burning in hell.

Lereco Fambro says:

You right thus says the Lord of blacks 2 for 5/ 3 for 10 get it!

Mwariama Kamau says:

With all due respect to Attorney Joseph Bailey's opening comments on this clip, the perception that Mr. Garvey did not receive expert advise in purchasing ships is grossly inaccurate. The ships were a "little over-priced," but his expert deceived him for a kick-back from the company selling the ships. Also, government informants (e.g. Dr. Arthur Ulysses Craig; ship electrical engineer who deliberately threw metal objects in the engine, etc.) helped sabotage the operation. No fault of Mr. Garvey.

john dane says:

Viperveteran says:

Damn sell outs we still have this problem

Lauren V says:

@caribbeandiaspora I agree very much so, but realize that Du Bois was Boule (a member of Sigma Pi Phi) and a Prince Hall Mason, so by his membership their agenda was to break down any pan-African movement and to have Black people move into an assimilation of the White supremacist system. The whole purpose of these Boule members is have Black people maintain their inferiority to the White supremacist system by integration and assimilation.

Lion Entity says:

Marcus was truly a great man.

aristoteles311 says:

@Tyronor coming from a time when black people thought if they lived a good life they could die and be white. I say having too much pride is a good thing. For Africa to be free, doesn't mean to be a country under the world bank. In this new world where economies stretch over borders. Africa will only be free when its people realize where they come from. Those black people who make fun of Haitians only imprison themselves. if you indulge in material thing your a slave to the producer.

aristoteles311 says:

@JRM733 Again what makes his costume outlandish. Every culture has its traits. Would you call an Arabic leader wearing Arabic clothes outlandish. Who in society decides what is acceptible. As the President of Africa he was a symbol of pride for his people. Would you say Queen Elizabeth is outlandish because she wears a crown. Dubois while he is a great mind, he didn't understand. He wants to peacefully integrate, which i would like to. but someone needs to address the wrongs that were done.

aristoteles311 says:

@JRM733 not at all, people should marry who they love. whether white black red or yellow. thanks for catching me, i shouldv'e rephrased it. You have to be black to understand. Parents love there lighter skinned children more than there darker skinned children, because the lighter skinned child has a better chance at being successful. You have to understand, African had our own beleifs and culture. When people talk about intergration do they mean for blacks to conform to white society. (cont)

aristoteles311 says:

@JRM733 his teaching weren't that mulatto's were the problem. His teachings were that our submissiveness and lack of self esteem were the problem. Mulattoes were evidence of our self hatred because they didn't identify with blacks and turned against them. there hatred for blacks was an issue with society.

aristoteles311 says:

@Tyronor thats exactly what he taught. Africa isn't free there is the west's puppet government in place being ran by mulattos. i have nothing against mulattos, im mulattos. Africa will be free again. one day.

aristoteles311 says:

all hail the president. we love you Garvey and i will continue your vision no matter what the cost. Africa will be free again.

ruapraia says:

Lord have mercy on us, we sure know how to mess each other up, Garvey had the same cointelpro brothas in his crew that we have today rappin in videos, working hard to keep us down. What Marcus Garvey had was class , and he was appreciated by Black people but alas the beast had the last word.

BrawShineTV says:

THE GREATEST BLACK LEADER OF ALL TIME ….. RIP MARCUS GARVEY

JTheTeach says:

@kimkennakent white people are still evil (not inherantly, I just mean there are still white people who commit evil), but now evil is much more apparent among all peoples because of globalizations influence. There is greed in the heart of all races now and they are not above subjugating their own peoples.. very very sad.

Marc Gonzalez says:

Make your own rules. No one can stop us from conducting business and creating wealth in our own community. Internationaly there are tons of African states looking to produce products for American consumption. Jackie Robinsons son started a farm that produces coffee in west Africa and the sell coffee to the major league baseball concetion stands. Your money stretches further in other markets. Just an idea.

coreyaustin1 says:

@pistonear I respect that, but it seems the only way to make it is to play by their rules, which isn't necessarily a good thing either….

Marc Gonzalez says:

They have never let one of our leaders operate on the international stage. Even now we have no international prescence. Sure we have a Black president but he represents the USA. I wonder what would have happend in the development of Africans in the diaspora if we would have lived a Black Nationalistic existence. We still don't control our finacial existence? Our own thing. Arrested development?

Marc Gonzalez says:

@coreyaustin1 Doesn't mean they can't do it know. I really would love to see that one day. So many of us don't control our own destiny. If no one ever does it then. The little ones won't believe in the possibility.

Marc Gonzalez says:

@ProdSun83 Uhuru Sassa
