Lets get real. The first couple albums all the way up the Brothers (2010) were prime Black Keys. They kinda fell off a bit after that. However, props to them for saying "fuck you" to the record executives.
Was in my Metal band for 8 years and we worked very hard to try and break out and we just couldn't do it. So many hours of practice and so much money. We even went on tour and we had the unfortunate experience of having a guy who lied about the marketing and didn't do his job, but he still got paid. We finally called it quits, and 2 years later me and my guitarist are making a new project with a different style. The music industry is rough, especially at the bottom.
I know fully what he's talking about when he says they basically sold out for a while. You really heard a drop in quality after Brothers got big. This new album still has a lot of that business shit, but it's showing signs of getting better. It's like kicking the cold or some shit lol
Record labels especially WB are still stuck in the 20th century marketing mentality. They always have some fucking scam on top of scam that always do not benefit the artist. It all goes to shit if the artist fails- most of the time because the artist decided to be "creative" instead of towing the line for the company. It is what the labels want: overly consistent music that is easily listenable on all platforms. You get that one band like The Black Keys and boom thats money in the bank.
Did he say he brought Vanilla ice as a kid? He looks older than Vanilla ice does now
I tried to be a rock star until I was 25, and locally almost made it. Musicians are some of the most unreliable people

The guy in the middle of the thumbnail looks like the mummy who comes after courage the cowardly dog. Return the slab, or suffer my curse

Case in point: The "Catch Me Outside" girl got a record deal while countless other more talented bands/artists languish in obscurity.
I love this dude. So candid and hilarious.
Get Zach Hill on the show.
I only buy CDs. Don't let record collections die!
