Im Australian and when we learn about tthe struggle for civil rights in America or that of the indigenous people of our land, we hear nothing about these incidents…
We get a sterilised summary that glosses over the horrendous violence to celebrates a narrative of equality being generously given to a minority by a just society!
As a result, kids grow up not understanding the extent of the divide or the depth of the wounds. Its easy then for folk to dismiss those currently engaged in struggle as ingrates…
Aboriginal people were being massacred by the hundreds well into the 20th century… They still gloss over it in our schools.
They should've received reparations from the U.S. government. In 1988, Japanese-Americans received reparations (from Reagan) for being placed in internment camps during WWII in the 1940s.
These black victims of white racism are now ancestors therefore their children or grandchildren should receive reparations.
But never forget 9/11…..
