When will more information and teaching of our true "history" be introduced into the school curriculum so that our people can know more of themselves. I believe it will only be possible when we have and control our own. We owe it to our ancestors.
Had it not been for Europe invading and exploiting Africa through the slave trade and colonialism Africa could have become an extremely advanced continent perhaps rivaling Europe and America. If Africa kept advancing without the slave trade and colonialism interfering Africa could have become a continent of extremely powerful and advanced states. The transatlantic slave trade and colonialism are two things that I will never forgive Europe and America for. The great empires of the Sudan such as the Ghana, Mali and Songhai empires are proof that Africa was growing and advancing. Ghana was big but Mali grew bigger than Ghana and Songhai grew bigger than Mali. The Songhai empire grew to be the largest empire in Africa's history. It covered in area of 1.4 million kilometers or larger than Western Europe. These empires had libraries, universities, cities, towns, legendary armies and navies comprise of horsemen, swordsmen, archers, and ships. They also possessed hundreds of thousands of manuscripts containing information on math, astronomy, botany, medicine, religion, spirituality, history, art and science. The Songhai empire was invaded in 1591 by the Kingdom of Morocco which was supplied with guns and cannons from England under Queen Elizabeth. Because the Songhai didn't take the threat from Morocco seriously they didn't spend a lot of time putting together a formidable and disciplined army. The army put together by the Songhai was put together quickly and numbered 40,000 while the invading Moroccan army numbered 4,000 troops with 6 English cannons and hundreds of guns. The Songhai made the fatal move of sending a herd of 1000 cattle to charge at the Moroccans but the noise from the guns scared the cattle causing them to charge back at the Songhai causing disorder and confusion among their ranks. The Songhai then sent their horsemen to charge at the Moroccans and killed some Moroccans and then the Songhai sent their rear guard which was made up of archers but was a small force that fired arrows at the Moroccans until they were killed. The Moroccans then moved on to Gao and Timbuktu were they captured scholars such as Ahmed Baba and sacked the city. The Moroccans would ultimately lose control of the empire and the empire itself would collapse allowing the slave trade to run rampant in West Africa.
