On this Special Edition of The Rock Newman Show we’re visited by the son of The Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Creator of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), creator of the famous Red Black & Green flag and credited as the inspiration for the Civil Rights Era and the creation of several other major organizations that spouted in the Black Community. In this episode we discuss the brilliance of Marcus Garvey and having his name posthumously exonerated of 1919 mail fraud charges.

Rashid Sundiata says:

Point of information: Marcus Garvey was not a "Civil Rights" leader. He was an accommodationist when it came to civil rights and political rights for African Americans. The Civil Rights Movement in the United States did not begin with Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey opposed civil rights leaders and organizations in the United States. Dr. Greg Carr should have corrected the fallacy that the show started on. He was derelict in his responsibility as an professor of African American Studies/History.

CrowdPleeza says:

As far as going back to Africa. Exactly what parts of Africa did Garvey
want to go back to? During Garvey's era most of the continent was under
European control. Most African countries didn't start gaining
independence until the 60's and 70's. So what parts of Africa were
Blacks going to go back to during the 20's?

nicholas Akubariki says:

What made Garvey great is that he gave us the blueprint all them years ago and if applied today would liberate our people. He was truly a visionary

MONEYPRO MUSIC says:

Garvey didn't only preach he back it up with actions and that's a NO NO for white supremacy…

This mail fraud nonsense charge against Marcus Garvey is foolishness, and not even worth debate. Everyone knows what that was about.

Theresa Lockhart says:

I think in order for things to change; we must not linger in what was yesterday. It's not working. Why does society treat/refer to the long-standing history of racism in the united states as a wheel that is slowly turning for social changes? We have to mobilize with the intent to eradicate this problem….we must use our political powers in high places to make the US as a whole to be accountable. Our civil liberties have been violated and we must start there. CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS….and policies that would create reflected changes to governed our communities…."Restructuring." How? Go to your local Council and start demanding that "we do not want all White Cops units policing our communities. In other words, a White Cop must have a Black Cop present. If, militia groups can have their own property policed free…that screams terrorism behavior on US soil than we can damn well argue; we want equal treatment under the same laws. Secondly, all Police Officer's must have more hours of training and be on probation longer. This would lower the risk of officers' shooting our Black boys and men. Enough!

Theresa Lockhart says:

Knowledge is power!

Steven Lashon Williams says:

From the Marcus Garvey movement came a lot of black power groups. The New York Israelites came from Josiah Ford who was a musician for Marcus Garvey.

Hallstyle says:

It is important for generations to come that The Most Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey be pardoned. I signed the petition and I must say I am disappointed at the low numbers.
