You may not be aware, but when you use another person's ideas or especially their exact words, you might want to reference or acknowledge that source. It's kind of plagiarism if you don't.

danijel grakalić says:

he produced them

John Gorgo says:

Interesting words..I don't think they understand his music though.

Kellee Hart says:

You make a good point, but the Last Poets recognize class and capitalism as intertwined with racism, from what I glean from their work. What JMH would have done is speculative. What he did do is a matter of record. It's not a matter of taking possession but more like drawing on and recognizing the cultural potential of an influential artist who can deliver a powerful message in line with their struggle. JMH's music speaks to black liberation in the context of universal multiculturalism.

Kellee Hart says:

He didn't need to be overtly political in his rhetoric. JMH let his music do all the talking necessary. He was a universalist but he was also deeply rooted in black American cultural aesthetics. Because his music communicates themes of struggle, independence, and freedom, he had resonance with black liberationists who were forward thinking in their outlook, including the BPP. They recognized his cultural power and his genius. As it should have been. "Machine Gun mf-er," to quote Miles Davis.

psykomystro says:

FYI… Jimi dedicated "MACHINE GUN" to the PANTHERS! He makes reference in his intro …"the soldiers in Vietnam, MILWAUKEE…(who was fighting in the midwest?)". He used his artistic intelligence and didn't say it flat out but no one else was fighting in that area at that time. Jimi loved all and would've helped all that he could've but didn't want to be political and take away from the art. Why war over such a peaceful and loving being?

jaik willis says:

@ThaFlyestMoor72 The panthers claimed it, the Poets repeated it. They can try to take possession of Jimi too. The Last Poets of the Panthers have dexterous tongues and sharp minds, but they also have a divisive agenda. Oppression isn't just racial, its economic and it extends over all other lines. Jimi was down with everyone who was down.
What Jimi did, he did, what he might have done later depends on the agenda of the speaker.

Odell Goodman-EL says:

@jaikwillis ??? Yo the Last poet said it not the Panthers. Plus the Panthers were against Polic Brutality and Oppression so I could see why Jimi would be down. I mean they always said Power to the People they help organize Natives, Latino's and Asians. You had all of the oppressed people following their formula. They were feeding the Homeless breakfast etc. The Government Gay Edgar Hoover in particular declared war on these Brothers and Sisters. For standing up for their Community.

jaik willis says:

@ThaFlyestMoor72 so say the panthers. jimi wanted to do something with everybody. he was a lover of all people freak or square, straight or shapeless. a beautiful fire flower like jimi's is desired by everyone, they all want to own it , they all want to claim it, they all want to say it is there and theirs alone, to cut down & place in a vase on their table cloth to watch it wilt on the wall in a frame of their choosing, jus dont look outside the lines, and see what is bigger than our narrow name

Odell Goodman-EL says:

Wow I din't know that Jimi wanted to do something with the Black Panthers

TheTruthUnderTheHood says:
