Melloncamp Carter says:

Dr Amos Wilson was unmatched in his assessment of the standings and status of black America, regrettably I didn't become aware of him except posthumously, now I assert that his knowledge and philosophy will live on and on. …..with the utmost respect I would briefly like to say: that you brother was and is simply outstanding, and much love to you my beloved brother. …..

Really needed to hear this lecture (again). Going through some tough times right now and Amos Wilson never fails to inspire me.

Asensio Rodriguez says:

He was speaking to a very small audience, many of people who I'm not sure understood the breadth or gravity of what he was saying at that time. I'm glad his lectures were recorded and therefore made available for those of us who were unable to attend Dr. Wilson's talks while he was alive. Much of what he spoke about has come to pass and is still relevant in not only African American, but in the Latin American and Native American communities as well.

PAUL WHALEY says:

WHEN AFFIRMATIVE ACTION WAS WHITE An Untold History of Racial Inequality in Twentieth-Century America. By Ira Katznelson, is an IMPORTANT book to read .We see the same claims around states rights used today to prevent people from accessing voting rights and healthcare. This is important when having conversations on affirmative action because folks will try to convince you white ppl have never received it. As Ira Katznelson would say, "Affirmative Action was white."It's responsible for creating the white middle class and ensuring black people would not have access to same resources and capital. The legislation of the New Deal deeply widened the socio-economic gap between white and black Americans in the aftermath of WWII. The NAACP called the social security legislation "a sieve with holes just big enough for the majority of Negroes to fall through." "We have endeavored to assure a measure of states right in the legislation" (ie south. states you can still discriminate against black ppl). This effectively ensured that southern bureaucrats maintained control of who received federal benefits, keeping them from black communities. They ensured that the administration of these laws, including poverty assistance & GI support, would be controlled by local officials. Southern Democrats prevented Congress from attaching anti-discrimination provisions for grants to health services, school lunch, & hospitals. By not including vocations black ppl held, the New Deal restricted black mobility while providing economic reinforcement to white citizens. They were excluded from New Deal provisions that included union membership, minimum wage, regulated hours of work, and Social Security. By no coincidence, farmworkers and domestic workers were not included as vocations that would receive benefits under the legislation. In the 1930s, the predominant black vocations were farmworkers & maids. 60% of black labor force, 75% of whom were employed in the South.US created New Deal public policy with the specific intention of creating upwardly mobility for whites, purposefully leaving black ppl out. >>>> http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/28/books/review/when-affirmative-action-was-white-uncivil-rights.html?_r=0

Raynayk says:

The closing of "highly paid jobs" of the 90s directly mirrors the closing of the "poorly paid jobs" of today (with WalMart, KMarts, and Macy's sites closing all over America). I personally do not think "jobs" in the capitalist sense actually exist any more…African people are basically living in the real life scenario of the book 1984 by George Orwell…being pushed from here to there in a semblance of life by a tiny cabal who does not want to share abundant luxuries with the masses. There is literally no need for humans to "work" any more with all of the automation of level of technology that we have, but if we all followed our dreams and developed to our fullest potential, how would we differ from the elite who value their elite-ness more than anything else in the world???

IAMGODDESS SHANTI says:

How did he die? I've been googling his death and found nothing?anyone know anything?

AfricanThinkingChannel says:

This lecture ties in perfectly with his lecture on special education where he speaks of the "power of definition", "the political-economy of the personality" and the general sociopolitical context of education.

Stand up if you're over 80. That's pretty funny.
