This would've been so much more enjoyable without the illuminati artist and music in the background. Rihanna exemplifies so many of the characteristics Ms. Welsing spoke against for Black people. And how about some actual information on melanin as opposed to tags in the info section?!
Yes, George Washington Carver was a very intelligent and inspiring man, but it wasn't because of any supernatural abilities related to melanin. There are three basic types of melanin found in humans. Eumelanin, the type found in skin and responsible for skin tone. Pheomelanin, a relatively rare type large responsible for certain red and auburn born hair coloration. Neuromelanin, a less well understood compound, found only in the brain (held in the brain cavity by the blood-brain-barrier). Even though we don't fully understand the function and biochemistry of neuromelanin, we do know this: there is NO recorded difference in brain levels of neuromelanin based on race. Indeed, if anything, it seems that Asians may have the highest levels of neuromelanin but the evidence for this is still inconclusive. Black folks have many great achievements to their name…there just is no reason to make stuff up. I also firmly believe that all of this pseudoscience. This is not just this melanin talk-in fairness, there is probably more pseudoscientific craziness coming out of White peoples' mouths than out of Black people's. My biggest problem with all of this talk is that it is terribly detrimental to our kids and their rigorous study and mastery of formal logic, mathematics, and the hard sciences. If Black folks really want their kids to succeed and their race to prosper, focus your children on these topics and subjects. Although, I also get that the long history of racism and oppression against Black folks dictates that special attention must be paid to strengthening your children's self esteem and feelings of competency–I may be White, but I am also a social worker ;) One of my Black friends jokes with me…"if our shit really starts to break out and go down…Don't worry, you're cool…you can hide behind us lol."
