People are gonna hate me for saying this but, unless there's some different version of this commercial that Im missing, there was no insensitive BLM-esque imagery associated with this commercial. We aren't the only people protesting on the planet. To me, it actually seemed more lbgt like. I didn't like that when they did show the black men, they HAD to be dancing; though I didn't get that Sambo vibe. I could also point out that the asian HAD to be playing Cello and the white girl HAD to be the focal point and hero of the ad but who's shocked by that??
I was recently listening to Dr FC Welsing where she brilliantly affirmed that if white people want to stop racism and show that they care and aren't racist then THEY have to actively put an end to it. WE need to focus on OUR own communities and RESPECT ourselves and eachother. Then others will respect us. No random dude will ever try no fuck shit with my little sister because they know that she respects herself. No negative-random dude would ever have the audacity to come around my family via dating my sister or try no dumb shit with us because they can tell ASAP that we aren't gonna allow fuckery to permeate our family. The family members that still live that life (and believe me there are a lot) STILL treat the elders and others with respect because respect is commanded. THEN ultimately since they come from a family that RESPECTS ITSELF, many learn to respect themselves enough to step away from that shit and learn a new-oftentimes harder way… And the family respects them for doing so. This is the cycle that we as Black people need to re-create. And it starts with the generation that has been born within the last 10 years.
