The Songhai did send a small number of archers to attack the Moroccans during the night but like I said it was a tiny number of archers. In these case since the Moroccans were in the middle of a forest during the night what the Songhai should have done is sent a much larger army comprised of all archers and set the forest surrounding the Moroccans on fire.
