Dr. Leslie Alexander joined us to discuss her recently published review, ‘The Birth of a Nation’ Is an Epic Fail. Alexander is a professor in the Department of African American and African Studies at The Ohio State University, where she specializes in 19th century Black culture and political consciousness. My hope is that ALL THESE SLAVERY MOVIES FAIL. Let me be the “exception” and not the rule. I don’t support slavery movies or Black Men being crossdressing coons. I know of Nat Turner but not everything. I will not give MONEY to movies of my people being whipped, beaten, raped, lynched, amputated and killed in a 2hr movie. WTF?! Do Black people have a sick fetish for seeing our people tortured decade after decade, movie after movie? Only way I would watch if 110min were the REVOLT and 10min of slavery and 2min of that would be text. I HAVEN’T seen Django, The Help, 12 Years a slave, The Butler, Amistad and Birth of a Nation. Also if you have seen most or All these movies as in money… WTF is wrong with you! The movies PANTHER & MALCOLM X are movies that should be remade every 5yrs to me. It seems there is a growing NOT to see these subservient, slavery and Blacks in these types movies. Or this is my hope, ALL THESE SLAVERY MOVIES SHOULD FAIL. Black people positive, intelligent, powerful, innovated, and above all… versatile! Thumbs Down!

Not with respect to sources, us telling our own story or the claim that Parker presents his film as a "documentary". The film OPENS with "based on a true story". And the idea that Parker's Nat Turner was inspired to rebel by the rape of his wife is a LIE.
The reason BOAN is an epic fail has nothing to do with the fact Nate Parker had sex with an unconsious drunk white woman along with 2 of his homies (As he admits to BTW) Its an epic fail because it is FICTION. (He admits that as well) 25 of the 55 victims of Nat Turner were helpless WOMEN CHILDREN and even INFANTS. These facts were left out of the movie which makes it null and void as a "historical" movie.

She couldn't dispute one thing but kept insisting that something wasn't accurate. OK woman, since you're the EXPERT, make a movie depicting historical accuracy!!! Otherwise, shut the f&$#@ up!!
I understand her point and her concern over accuracy. My issue is with the timing of her statement. Nat Turner is a man but his true story will always be subject to inaccuracy and she did not have to speak negatively of the movie in order to educate others. BON like Pearl Harbor, Every Roman movie ever made, Caucasian American icons, etc will always have inaccuracies. Her comments were not necessary….
