Author and social commentator Brother Polight returned to VladTV to talk about his experience leaving Brownsville, New York. Polight notes that many brag about living in the hood, but that a common mentality amongst people who live there is, “Can’t wait to get out.” Polight also argues that “black communities” are mostly a myth: “I didn’t live in a black community, I lived in a white community populated with black people.” Watch above.

He's absolutely right. I'm from Brownsville as well and growing up there the people was so bitter and if you was a good guy just trying to get ahead in life, they hated you for it. If you was bad and went around gangbang you got all the praise from the hood people. Me and my family always stayed away from the negativity.

This is what happens when black people travel or interact with different cultures and mindsets. I understand him 1000%. However I have the luxury of being working class meaning I am constantly reminded of where my people are in society socially and economically. Brother Polite is turning his convictions and knowledge into success and it does make you vain and a bit arrogant when you gain a following and then gain wealth. It validates everything you think and do since people agree with you and now you are prospering financially. Its easy to lose that warrior spirit when you are now living lavish and have leisure. Slowly but sureley your message changes or becomes too broad sweeping and esoteric that your CORE audience begins to turn against you.
