When I was 14 (in 1973) I bought a 10-pack of 45's in TG&Y and this was included in them. It was in the same picture sleeve as noted above and I found it quite haunting and intriguing. I still have the 45 to this day.
At first, being so used to the album version, this sounded weird, but after a few listens I like this better! But, HeathenWorld, how do you know this is Buddy Miles on organ? I don't find that info anywhere, and Buddy Miles was a drummer! Not saying you're wrong, just want to know more.
I was turned on to this by a heroin user, good friend, I met @ 17 while working at the Federal Reserve Boston. Its a sad story about people who love heroin, like the great sax man "Bird". I lived it and left it. Opened my mind, musically and otherwise. Anything feels so good gotta have its pitfalls, money………
Thanks for posting this! A friend had the single 30 years ago, but I've struggled to find any sign that this version (with organ rather than drums) ever existed till now.
