ohn Henrik Clarke (January 1, 1915 - July 16, 1998), born John Henry Clark, was a Pan-Afrikan writer, historian, professor, and a pioneer in the creation of Africana studies and professional institutions in academia starting in the late 1960s. He was Professor of African World History and in 1969 founding chairman of the Department of Black and Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College of the City University of New York. He also was the Carter G. Woodson Distinguished Visiting Professor of African History at Cornell University's Africana Studies and Research Center. In 1968 along with the Black Caucus of the African Studies Association, Clarke founded the African Heritage Studies Association. A self-educated intellectual, Clarke documented the histories and contributions of African peoples in Africa and the diaspora, creating an Afrocentric perspective.

People are to fast to judge Dr. West as an "Uncle Tom" he is not he follows a very old Tradition within the black church of seeking justice and humanity for all People. I admire and respect Dr. Clarke greatly his work is a must read to understand history properly and within context also his Passion for teaching is a model for us all who wish to learn and teach history. I simply beileve that today Dr. West is a good man and Scholar doing what he can to help all People as Dr. Clarke did before him.
Unfortunately, Afrocentrists are not, by definition, primarily concerned with the truth, but rather the self-esteem and well being of Black people. No historical inquiry can be conducted, in earnest, until it is divorced from the tortured, angst-ridden, existential crisis of the Black Diaspora—a crisis that can only be resolved through honest, uncensored discourse of the kind opposed by Afrocentrists.
The fear of offending Whitey even though their offense are of their own accord. Africans everywhere must embrace a true and effective course of action and be unapologetic about it….
Classic. I think in my humble opinion, once Cornell West couldn't or clearly chose to NOT ANSWER the " you wouldn't say that to an Israeli" comment, the debate was pretty much over. Dr John Hendrik Clarke not only showed the importance of African-Nationalism but also the FEAR of too many of our leaders.

I also love how Cornel West covered the bigger picture – African people are everywhere;
25:00 in "Freedom is something you take with your own hands… you must first make an alliance with your self!"
Cornell west and Henry Louis gates = White ass kissers no back bone
This has to be the most humblest and respectful debate EVER! Cornel knew what time it was lol
