Good information for those who are willing to listen. Also check into web sites and You Tube videos from Dr Boyce Watkins and His and Her Money with Talaat and Tai McNeeley addressing the Black Dollar.

Alexis Chambers says:

And another reason why blacks don't have access to capital is because we don't have our own country that we're economically, physically, mentally, and spiritually connected to. Asians and Middle Easterners still have that connection with their own country. They can accumulate credit in their country and come over to the states and set up 5 different shops. Blacks are at a disadvantage because our connection with Africa has been cut due to slavery.

Alexis Chambers says:

This is an awesome mini segment on black businesses. I'm currently drafting up my business plan for my own tutoring company and I plan to focus on the African American community. Thank you for all the tips and pointers.

Ifasola Akofe Elesije says:

Black people as of now are doom because the whole beauty supply store make their money by selling Black Hate. If a Black beauty supply store want to compete they have to drink the hate kool aid in order to make money. We must change ourselves if we want to change our environment. STOP the Black self hate and cooning for a Pink phenotype. The only way we going to win is only with Black dollars no other group will help you or maintain you better than your race. The reason why all these Black business fail is because once they see you as Black they leave you and now you stuck without a African base.

Akiko Park says:

Reasons why Blacks, Negroes, etc Should not support in any form

1. Housing discrimination against blacks both countries

2. Job discrimination both countries (black females can get "privileges" (plus imported techniques from W/S)

3. Medical and dental services discrimination in many places.

4. Public shopping centers, typically have many racist vendors

5. Police profiling both countries (plus imported techniques from W/S)

6. Visa manipulation and granting profiling systems. (black females can get "privileges"

7. Educational systems discrimination in both countries
(plus imported techniques from W/S)

8. Antagonistic, Race Vandals, Race soldiers Racist nationalist, and other group assaulter(s) in both countries.

9. Divine destruction headed to both places, via M.F.M ref: Theology of Time; H.E.M.

Black people hate black business. When shopping black ,blacks want a deep discount free.

Blacks don't need to be marketed to …check out the recent ads.

We are straight consumers, we produce some to none.

Sitting ducks.

CHRISTOPHER RASHAD BROWN says:

I love that part about segmenting.
I started my career in the financial services industry and found out quickly that I have to have a niche and focus on a certain market because
1.) white men no matter what age, are NOT letting a nigga manage his money.
2.) older black men always have ulterior motives to ambitious, young and well-spoken black men and be on some "let me take this young brotha under my wing" shit wasting our time talking about nothing
3.) black women would rather deal with other black women. which I'm not complaining about at all.

but anyway thanks for the input

Marish Long says:

I disagree you can sustain a business ONLY marketing to blacks. That is totally false. The problem is most black owned companies don't have the capital needed to start out.(I think another person commented that on here). So even if your demographic is large and you hide under the radar as a non-black owned business, you still won't make it. Doesn't matter. The way to solve this problem is for the more established black owned companies to invest in smaller black business to help the grow. But I doubt that will happen since most established black owned companies are very WHITE WASHED, and fear losing their own money if they help another black person. Like Oprah for example. When she left the "Oprah show" and became more independent I noticed she started helping more blacks with shows and acting and their careers. This needs to happen with many well established black people. But I doubt it will

Steven Boyd says:

Hi Chrissie, I am a fellow conspiracy theorist! I'm white and gay, and I know in spite of that .. (No doubt) that we are are unfortunate equals. I believe that your from US it means u are very upset angry towards all thats White! I'm very white, no one appreciates my white skin!! I'm Irish by nationality. I see no popular representation of my skintone on TV! I always tan my skin! Have done since I'm 16 (30) now.

Machiavelli's Prince says:

As I Am is not black owned? What? That….sucks.

Machiavelli's Prince says:

Girl you bad.

STAFF SERGEANT says:

@13:50 Great point on innovation but i'll have to slightly disagree. I feel that there is nothing wrong with the "not re-inventing the wheel" approach when looking to start your own business especially as a black person. The majority of black businesses fail in thier infancy Not because of non-innovation but the due to the lack of CAPITAL. So it doesnt matter how innovative you are, if you dont have the money to make it manifest then your doomed. Or if it's a great invention you'll need to do alot of borrowing which puts you more in debt.

Black people have to take a simplistic and realistic approach when staring a business. To many of us think that the only way to have a thriving business is to invent something new.

If your black, then 9x out of 10 you have no networks and no consumer base defined by race as other races do. My advice would be get into markets where no one has a strangle hold on the market.

Examples: Where do the indians get thier 7-eleven store products from? From Just about any whole saler in the worlds who sells junk products. No one has a corner on cheap goods. And you see how successful that franchise is.

Same thing with gas stations. No particular race (white controlled gov excluded)has a corner on petroleum.

By doing this, you have a sure flow of capital to invest in the more important things that wields power i.e STEM.

Noper Eradicator says:

Black people spend like they breed: reckless as hell. Black people raised a legion of self haters and now as adults Black people expect race/consumer loyalty? How can Blacks expect anyone else to want to buy Black when Blacks don't even want to?

Anthony Brian Logan says:

Also, we have to keep in mind that a business shouldn't want to alienate anyone if possible. The black community is only about 12.8% of the United States population. You want to get as close to 100% as possible, and even if you reach the maximum of the black community (which you won't) 12.8% is not close to 100%.

Anthony Brian Logan says:

The problem is that we don't have enough of an infrastructure that we own to service our needs in a proper way. We could have cheap food stores like the Chinese do in every black "community" in the nation, but how many black folks want to basically live in a restaurant and also have their kids in there every day? No days off, no social events, no clubbing, no nothing? And how many of us are going to be as efficient/timely as the Chinese are?
