Yes, the Poets are the grandfathers of Rap & Hip/Hip…I remember also listening to them during the late '69 thru the '70s. It was underground at the time.

Been listening to these cats since '70 when I was in high school. The drama we were going through at the time was resonating in their poetry. It is sad that young rappers (some, not all) cannot realize the power of their voice; but they waste it pushing foolish lyrics about being gangstas, pimps, hustlers, drug pushers, and every form of degredation that has plagued the black community over the last 50 years. The Last Poets and Gil Scot-Heron left them a legacy and they have blown it.
