We can't even code switch using our own slang anymore because we've handed that over on a platter to them like we've done everything else of ours. We used to be able to talk slang & no other race or ethnicity knew what we were talking about, but now everybody is speaking "our" language. Thanks to us.
I just learned that the way our people braided their hair during slavery was a form of communication between our people. Would this be a form of code switching?
And WELL'WELL in just about 42:10 minutes of tonight broadcast/video S.A. WITH SOME Very GOOD POINT OF VIEW I'm just saying in my opinion always, always read between the lines black first. (Is/was uploaded on November 7,2017)
Code switching applies to the way we spell words in the presence of our youth especially when we don't want to be a negative influence directly. My mother and grandma were code switching when they convrsated in front of me till I became able to read write and comprehend
Yes w.e.b. dubois called it duo-consciousness. Also code switching was introduced to me in college back in 05. I took sociology and anthropology in college. I remember now after all these years because you prof Griff thanks. W.e.b.dubois gave us a heads up when he said black people have a double mind one African one American and because of this we are technically code switching all the time tryna decide to be African or American. In my honest opinion double mindedness is the basis for code switching. It's not code switching when your single minded
I do it all the time, e.g. rap song or tv or book references or quotes, Ebonics, etc. to explain things to my Black coworkers when I don't wanna whisper or when I can't whisper.
Im on code most of the time at work. I work in nursing facility. Most of the nurse assistants are black but all of the nurse supervisors are white and usually looking for a reason to fire you. If me and my black co workers are talking about situations going on in the work place, and supervisors walk in, usually the subject changes. What u say can be used against you. Its a chess game.
