The schools in his price range will need renovations and he will owe property taxes even if the school is not functional. Since he is not a developer it will be difficult for him to prove his purchase of the school will become an asset to the community. Property values are at stake. He has made himself so controversial that most people are not going to want to work with him. They would appear as sympathisers to his cause. Especially if he is on the Black Identity Extremist list. Because he is so divisive and volatile, neighborhoods will protest the existence of his school in their community. He has demeaned the school districts for years, so why would they sell him a school? No one with real money will invest in him because this is a high risk project. He would better off looking for someone to donate a property to him. First of all you can not write off money that you have donated to an organization that does not have nonprofit / tax exempt status. You can go ahead and try to write off anything but are taking a risk of being flagged. Sure you may get away with it but it is definitely not legal to write off money you have given him. Second of all like he said, Gofundme has huge fees AND THIS IS HIS FAULT. GoFundMe charges MUCH LESS if you use the GoFundme certified charities program which he can not do because he is not a registered nonprofit. Next the brother has not talked at all about the tax liability he has created for himself by not becoming a nonprofit after all of this time. Close to half of what he raises will be going to Fees and Taxes which is an inappropriate use of poor peoples money. The brother may be an expert in his field but should have surrounded himself with a team that included an expert accountant, realtor and lawyer that would have helped to get his business in ordered and properly structured.
