Richard Smith, I will say what Dr. Blair didn't say. Most ALL tribal symbolism is rooted in nature/cosmological awareness. The Dogon are an absolutely advanced humanity, indeed, but there are others who are also advanced. Those who remain relatively unexposed to the Western world remain in that state: reference the Dagara peoples of Upper Volta in Africa and the Sans people of South Africa, among many others. The invasion of the West destroyed many of these advanced civilizations! A part of your consciousness remains in the mindset that all tribal peoples are primitive. The operative word is: untouched by the Western world. When people maintain their historic paradigm, they remain advanced. When exposed to the West (religion, etc.) they regress profoundly! The proof is prolific across the Earth!
