That’s my hometown and I used to be a Realtor… that said, property tax auctions are held annually in September through Wayne County-Chinese investors have been buying the whole inventory in one bundle for the past few years before anyone can get their hands in one. There is the Detroit Land Bank Authrority that owns property and has auctions almost daily generally for owner occupants so yes it is possible to buy property very cheap. However, you have to be prepared for a full rehab on those properties, city certifications afterwards and know that these homes are generally not in areas where they are valued that high. Homes for sale in better neighborhoods that are auctioned are reserved for city employees. Could say more but hey-just look up Wayne County and Detroit Land Bank to start your research… btw, without having a 1st lien in a home-you are not eligible for an equity line of credit, these homes are cash sales so that voids the potential of a 1st lien/mortgage… I have lenders in my family.
