African-American men and women spend billions of dollars on their hair, but U.S. beauty care companies are missing out.

Mintel values the black hair care industry at more than $2.5 billion, but that statistic doesn’t include products such as hair accessories, wigs or electric styling products. So, the industry is actually worth much more.

Most hair care products purchased by African-Americans are imported from countries such as India and China, despite the U.S. having one of the most lucrative hair care markets in the world.» Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC

Admiral Medjay says:

If you really can't help but feel like you gotta be stupid enough to walk around with somebody else nasty a%% long fur on top of your head at least try a free alternative like owing a Afghan hound for instance those are the dog breed with the longest hair and it's very similar to the so called human hair weaves that y'all are currently wasting your children's college money on smh…Besides I bet 99.9% of people won't even notice if I was selling to them weaves made of Afghan hound hair XD And c'mon man!!!! You gotta be kidding me!!!! Who in their right state of mind would wash their hair only 3 times a month??? ewww that's filthy!!!!! Listen I grew up with 2 black sisters we all have 4C hair and despite the fact that they wash their hair everyday both of them have deep black healthy waist length hair on top of their head even me I have shoulder length healthy 4C hair and I'm not a hairstyle freak most of the time I got my hair like whatever besides I wash my hair everyday but the key to have healthy 4C hair is to moisturize it twice a day and keep it detangle all the time with a large tooth comb and that's it ….

Second Take says:

This is insane! I am a Black woman and I only spend 700.00 a year. You can get by spending 1,000.00 or less.

Stacey says:

Coconut oil only cost 5 dollars cheap and effective moisture.

Jose Aguirre says:

In the city if Memphis, They are closing down grocery stores and replacing them to weave shops

552mustang says:

These people are spending $8000 a year? They all look the same, what are they spending it on? I mean if you looked awesome, thats one thing, but I dont see it here

Hybrid InfoDesk says:

Seriously, olive, tea tree, coconut, castor or blackseed oil costs less than $10. Some of those women with seriously thick hair, break out the vinegar rinse or coconut oil and lemon conditioner. Black hair is not that fragile. Although some had some serious curl patterns. No way would i sit and have a weave sown on. Or wear a wig, both seem extremely hot. Like wearing a thick hat in the summer or all year long. $30k on hair, not in an entire lifetime.

Hybrid InfoDesk says:

More bs from the bs factory. Where do they find these people? This is an old trend, black women know those hair products in bottles are chemicals. Too many natural products available. This is too convince swirling white boys black women are high maintenance. You can easily spend less than $10 a month on products you find in the grocery.

Noel says:

Guys solution: shave it off, save money.

Lee Smith says:

Article linked below talks about "Cultural Appropriation". Accusing this girl of doing it when actually it's her natural hair. So I don't get why it would have been wrong if it wasn't her natural hair. Being inspired by / mimicking another culture isn't a bad thing. They should be proud if they are copied. So I guess those people who think cultural appropriation is a bad thing should look at this video. Because it seems to be black girls go to great lengths to makes their hair look like other races hair. I think it's a waste of time any money but no harm to anyone.
