“I wrote the book because black women in America have been protected and insulated against certain kinds of criticism and examination,” said Ali.

“The black man has been critiqued, the white woman and white man have been critiqued. Everybody but us (black women). I decided that we needed a self-examination of ourselves to find out what is our share of the problems in the black community,” Ali said.

“Whenever there is a breakdown in a relationship, both parties are responsible. But we have always said it was the black man’s fault. We have always said that he left us, abandoned the children, beat us and killed us and did a lot of other things to us. My book tries to examine what happens before we get to that point.”

Which, she contends, began during slavery.

“It’s entirely possible that hidden some place in the Blackwoman’s psyche is a tremendous fury and loss of confidence in the Blackman because he was unable to protect her during slavery,” Ali writes. “She doesn’t know what he should have done to stop slavery, but she thinks he should have done something.”

Ali admits “The Blackman’s Guide to Understanding the Blackwoman” is, like her, brutally honest.

“We know that some of the traditions of the white-power structure are at the root of many of our problems. But those are external factors,” Ali said.

“Internally — inside of the African-American community — we have problems in our personal relationships that are simply a result of contributory neglect — of black men and black women failing to deal truthfully with each other about what the problems are.”

Sweet Sugar 101 says:

I like this lady. She's very intelligent. But, the black woman gets treated so badly by our black men depending on her status. We don't want to forget about our black men it's just that in many cases, we're 'forced' to. Because, if we're too dark he rejects us we're too dark to date. If we're fat or overweight- he rejects us, if we're too tall – we're rejected, if we're independent – then we somehow don't need no man (wow), if we're struggling – then we're said to be 'needy' and he rejects us. If we're not freaky enough he cheats or leaves us, if we're real freaky – then we're considered a 'whore' and he can't trust us, if we're committed to him – he uses us and says, "Oh, she ain't going no where." If we bare their children he says- "Aaand!'  If we fall in love with him – he uses us b/c then he knows we're vulnerable. I mean, anything we do- most black men find a way to hurt us. So, no black women don't want to step out into another race, but usually we're forced to. However, regardless of all of this mistreatment- many of us still hold on to the concept of 'Black Love' while we get older, lonelier, and less hopeful of ever being married someday ever being in love- All many of us are doing now is just….waiting…..waiting…..waiting…..waiting.(years pass)….waiting….waiting…..on him to leave the confines of boyhood, excuses, and his pain to become a faithful and loving man for us. And yet,……..we wait!!!

We really are God!!!!! It doesn't matter what position anyone takes on the subject of Black people's condition in the US aka Babylon, the buck stops with the Black woman. She is responsible for herself, her mate, the kids, other women, the community, the spirituality, the food / diet. How does one submit, yield, and lead all at the same time???? All praise due to the incredible Black woman.
