Grio.com: According to a new Nielson report called African-American Women: Our Science, Her Magic, the businesses run by and the brand loyalty of Black women is driving part of the economy, so much so that total Black spending power is expected to hit a record $1.5 trillion by 2021.
The number of businesses majorly owned by Black women grew 67 percent between 2007 and 2012, at a rate higher than all women generally in the United States.
“Black women have strong life-affirming values that spill over into everything they do. The celebration of their power and beauty is reflected in what they buy, watch and listen to, and people outside their communities find it inspiring,” says Cheryl Grace, Senior Vice President of U.S. Strategic Community Alliances and Consumer Engagement, Nielsen. “Understanding how Black women’s values affect their buying decisions has long been a marketing necessity. Everything that was said is very true with the ecception of cryptocurrency. People have a tendency to poke fun at things they are not educated on. I ve done quite well with crypto. But I digress. I enjoy the show. This information is invaluable.
asians invest in education. asian kids go to school 7 days a week from the age of 4 or 5. they dominate the california university system with 40-50 percent of the student population. they are going into fields such as nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, IT, finance. they have done this in 2 generations really. but i will say this THEY DO SPEND on name brands for sure, but in black culture being smart is seen as not cool amongst our peers, that has to change.
Oh God! Some of the responses to this discussion are terrible! It shows a clear misunderstanding of finance, economics, politics and global capitalism! It reflects on our educational level as well! Another thing! There is an anti-intellectual consciousness in the US in general and us in particular. Also, it shows that what we think we understand about our situation is what we are receiving through mass media content! We are not doing research and using critical analysis to aid in our understanding at all! We are lost! Buying an attack helicopter from the same people that oppresses us is idiotic! Native Americans tried that a few hundred years ago when they bought defective guns from White traders on Indian reservations. Do any of you remember that when you studied history in grade school? I remember and I am 71 years old! There are folks in our communities who walk around with their chest poked out talking about how much "hood" or "street" knowledge they have! Well, our "hood" knowledge is not helping us to deal with international global capitalism. We are truly lost! I live in Malaysia and more Malaysians have a better grasp of world capitalism than we who live in the richest country in the world! Please read and study more before you come up with these off of the top of your heads conclusions! This is embarrassing!

When wall street talks about our buying power, they mean money they can profit from. That way we transfer power to them. Our power is powernomics.
